No player may have suffered a bigger injury than Jayson Tatum, the Boston Celtics star forward who ruptured his right Achilles tendon in Game 4 against the New York Knicks. He has since had surgery to repair the damaged joint. It was Tatum’s show all night, as he scored 42 points and pulled down eight rebounds. Unfortunately, in the fourth quarter, he suffered a brutal injury.
The injury occurred this past Monday, and Tatum’s required surgery on Wednesday was designed to set things right. After completing the process, he posted a picture on Instagram of him in front of his new plate giving a thumbs-up. In the caption, he thanked all of his supporters. Tatum shared the news, writing, “Thankful for all the love and support,” and posting a praying hands emoji.
The NBA community immediately came together to show Tatum support, with thousands of well-wishers sending in messages of goodwill. Their messages of support and good cheer celebrated the friendship and mutual respect that exists in the world of sports.
As Tatum starts the long road back to recovery, the Celtics have some tough decisions to make. They will aim to stay competitive in the Eastern Conference semifinals without their star player when they compete in Game 5 against the New York Knicks. The same is true for the Celtics, who need to pivot immediately after Tatum’s injury. His absence leaves a huge hole in their lineup.
