Jayson Tatum Suffers Ankle Sprain in Celtics Game Against Kings

Boston Celtics star Jayson Tatum suffered a left ankle sprain during the third quarter of the game against the Sacramento Kings. Tatum, his team’s most prolific option on offense, twisted his ankle after stepping onto the foot of Domantas Sabonis. This was following a tough but legal foul that was assessed as a flagrant 1. Though appearing bothered by the injury, Tatum was able to get back on the court and add to Boston’s growing lead with a free throw.

Tatum's injury occurred with 3:35 remaining in the third quarter as he attempted a contested 3-pointer. After finishing the shot, he collapsed on the floor in agony. As he laid down for what felt like an eternity, the Celtics’ training staff rushed to his side.

After being helped to the bench, Tatum was able to reassess on the court. He knocked down one of his two free throws, pushing Boston’s lead to 79-68. He ended the game with a highly efficient 25 points before leaving the court.

After the game, Tatum was spotted favoring his foot while walking around the Celtics’ locker room. According to ESPN's Ramona Shelburne, Tatum described his ankle as "just sore" and mentioned that the team plans to be cautious with his recovery.

"I literally just asked him how he was doing, and he said, 'OK,'" Mazzulla stated.

Tatum’s post-injury performance was no indication of himself falling short, but rather a product of his commitment and toughness. His ability to return and contribute to the team's lead highlights his importance to the Celtics' lineup.
