Jameis Winston Joins New York Giants in Two-Year Deal

The former USC quarterback originally agreed to a two-year, $8 million contract with the New York Giants. The veteran quarterback and former No. He will provide another starting option, but more importantly, serve as a mentor for any of the young quarterbacks the Giants draft. Winston’s breadth of experience covers a 10-year career. He’s started 87 of the 105 games he’s appeared in, already establishing himself as a valuable veteran presence in the league.

Winston’s last action in the NFL was as a member of the Cleveland Browns. He began the 2024 campaign as Deshaun Watson’s primary backup. He was not the starter at the outset of the season, but became that when Watson suffered a season-ender right Achilles tendon tear in Week 7. When he was the team’s starting quarterback, Winston passed for 2,121 yards. He struggled at times by only completing 61.1% of his passes with 13 touchdown passes and 12 interceptions. Winston had a disastrous stretch in Week 16, getting benched after he threw eight picks in three games. Instead, he recovered and became a huge offensive weapon for the Browns.

In his short time under Winston’s leadership, the Browns pulled off shock wins over tough teams like the Baltimore Ravens and Pittsburgh Steelers. He left his mark in franchise history, throwing for a record-breaking 497 yards. That remarkable occurrence came in a wild Week 13 shootout with the Denver Broncos. Winston’s incredible statistics over his career are a testament to that. He has passed for 61.2% completions, 24,225 yards, 154 TDs and 111 INTs.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers drafted Winston No. 1 overall in 2015 to be their franchise quarterback. He certainly left his mark in his two seasons with the Steel City team before going on to spend four years with the New Orleans Saints. Last offseason, he had made enough progress to be brought aboard the Cleveland Browns. For now, he’s looking to turn the page to a new beginning with the New York Giants.
