Jalen Ramsey Joins Steelers Following Trade with Dolphins

In a surprise move that sent shock waves throughout the NFL, cornerback Jalen Ramsey was traded. He’s making the move from the Miami Dolphins to the Pittsburgh Steelers. This trade could be a watershed moment for the player and franchises traded to and from. Ramsey figures to move to safety as he joins his new team. The closing on that deal came this week. To complete this trade, the Dolphins will send a seventh-round pick in 2027 to the Steelers for a fifth-round pick.

After being traded to the Dolphins to start 2023, Ramsey signed a restructured three-year, $55 million extension with Miami. He’s taken on a superstar role in the league. Despite missing seven games last season due to injury, he earned a Pro Bowl selection in 2023, showcasing his impact on the field. He recorded two interceptions during the season, with a notable performance including a pick during a Week 16 loss to the Baltimore Ravens. He provided 11 pass breakups and makes a case for his defensive capabilities.

In his first year with Miami, Ramsey developed a knack for versatility as he led all Dolphins players in receptions as an active player on the roster. He was always heard first in his capacity as a kickoff returner. He ended the year with less receiving yards than all-world tight ends Brock Bowers, Trey McBride and George Kittle. This mismatch underscores the foggy area that is positional statistics.

The trade comes after Ramsey signed a similar, although larger, three-year extension with the Dolphins this past offseason, at $72.3 million in 2024. This contract extension is a great testament to just how valuable he has been to the league. Beginning in 2025, he’ll get a $1.5 million game boost, pushing his annual earnings to $26.6 million.

Historically, Ramsey has been a player that has always performed at the level he’s expected to perform at. He has added 24 interceptions to this impressive haul, with multiple picks in each of the three seasons before 2023. The 2022 campaign saw him rack up a career-high six interceptions. … new historic accomplishments merely reinforce his status as the second-best football player on the planet right now.

As he heads to safety with the Steelers, Ramsey still has the potential to be great. Fans are understandably hoping for him to join the likes of Micah Parsons, T.J. His experience and skill set should add a new dimension to the line of Pittsburgh’s defense.

Ramsey expressed enthusiasm on social media, stating:

“Break my own news! #HereWeGo @steelers.”

Meanwhile, Raheem Mostert, a teammate from his time with the Dolphins, shared his thoughts on the trade via Twitter:

“Hot take: Be a Pro-bowler on the Dolphins, get treated like s
