Jaguars Secure Meyers with $60 Million Extension

Jaguars Secure Meyers with $60 Million Extension

Perhaps no team did more to improve their offense than the Jacksonville Jaguars. They recently re-signed wide receiver Jakobi Meyers to a $60 million, long-term extension. This agreement ensures that he remains the face of the franchise at least through the 2028 season. It continues the trend of Meyers’ strong play since joining the Jaguars. The extension is a testament to the team’s belief in him as a player and the importance he has become as the focal point of their offensive schemes.

Jakobi Meyers began his professional career in 2019 as an undrafted rookie free agent with the New England Patriots. Since then, he’s gone on to accomplish extraordinary things on the NFL gridiron. In his four seasons with New England, he had 235 receptions for 2,758 receiving yards and eight scores. Earlier this year, he signed a three-year, $33 million contract with the Las Vegas Raiders. During his tenure with the team, he compiled 191 catches for 2,186 yards and 12 TDs in 38 contests.

The Jaguars’ biggest splash at the Nov. 4 trade deadline was acquiring Meyers from the Raiders. They swapped fourth- and sixth-round picks for 2026 to finalize the deal. Injuries holding down other offensive linemen opened the door for his surprising addition on the roster. This change has turned the Jaguar offense from predictable to exciting. On the other side, quarterback Trevor Lawrence has taken full advantage of Meyers’ sure-handedness and reliable performance.

Despite playing in just six contests with the Jaguars so far, Meyers has already left an impression. He’s tallied 27 receptions for 355 yards and three touchdowns. He’s been phenomenal with his consistency all year long, and he’s only had one drop on the season. In reality, he’s never had two or more drops in one season. This level of reliability has earned him praise from Jaguars’ general manager James Gladstone, who referred to Meyers’ surehandedness as his “superpower.”

Meyers turned 29 in early November, so he was entering his prime. Without the extension, he would have been poised to hit the open market at the conclusion of the season. The Jaguars have already picked up his fifth-year option. This decision is a dramatic indication of their intent to develop a competitive roster capable of competing for titles.
