Baltimore Ravens rookie tight end Isaiah Likely suffered a small fracture in his foot at the end of Tuesday’s practice. The injury occurred during a non-contact drill. More importantly, it particularly happened on the very last play of an individual drill against safety Sanoussi Kane. The Ravens are watching the situation with interest. If Likely’s recovery progresses as hoped he will be back early in the season.
The 25-year-old likely had a great breakout campaign last season. He set career highs with 42 catches, 477 yards and six scores. His performance played a significant role in the tight end group’s success, as he and teammate Mark Andrews combined for 17 touchdown catches. This amazing stat at once made them the most prolific tight end duo in terms of touchdowns in NFL history. They really came into their own during last season!
Likely’s injury now puts the Baltimore Ravens in a bit of a pickle. This team has one of the deepest tight end groups in the league, as Andrews is joined by fellow TE Charlie Kolar. All three players are set to become free agents after this season. This deadline adds to their sense of urgency to compete, as they scramble to lock down their own NFL futures.
Heading into the last year of his rookie deal, Likely is due $3.4 million this year. The Ravens selected him in the fourth round of the 2022 NFL Draft. Since that time, he’s gone on to demonstrate that he is an indispensable part of the organization. The team plans to monitor his progress closely. His contributions will be critical for their success in the upcoming season.
