Irsay Sisters Embrace Leadership Role with the Indianapolis Colts

Carlie Irsay-Gordon, along with her sisters Casey Foyt and Kalen Jackson, has stepped into significant roles within the Indianapolis Colts organization after years of preparation. Carlie is MōV line’s owner and chief brand officer. She leads the effort to get the team back into contention after suffering through a rough period that has seen them miss the playoffs four years in a row.

The book chronicles the experiences of the Irsay sisters, raising daughters in a family legacy quite literally steeped in football. Under numerous titles over the years spanning decades, they’ve served behind the scenes in different capacities within the Colts organization. Their father, Jim Irsay, deliberately groomed them for leadership, ensuring they were equipped to take over the team when the time came.

“We drafted Anthony for a reason and we believe in him,” Carlie Irsay-Gordon stated regarding the team’s fourth overall draft pick in 2023. Anthony Richardson may well be the best quarterback, but he will have to beat out Daniel Jones to win the starting job. Though it’s difficult being a rookie, Carlie has high hopes for Richardson.

“He’s incredibly talented and sometimes, when you draft players, they have rough starts, they have injuries, they’ve got those things that they need to go through. I think it’s way too early to tell,” she added. She is passionate about developing emerging talent. This strategy dovetails with the organization’s broader aim of retaking their place atop the AFC South, a division they haven’t claimed since 2014.

The sisters’ partnership goes beyond blood. They’ve developed a robust working relationship. “We’re sisters, but we’re business partners,” Kalen Jackson remarked. This duality makes their eventual decision-making all the more powerful as they’re forced to consider the nuances and complexities of running an NFL team.

Throughout their time working together, they have confronted some of the most controversial and important decisions, all while juggling the challenge of maintaining personal and professional relationships. Kalen emphasized the importance of their sibling bond, stating, “And they always say your relationships with your siblings are probably the most important in life. They’re the people you’re with the most. The people that will most likely stay with you the longest.”

At a recent press conference, Irsay sisters shared how they have rejected traditional norms of leadership. Though at first planning to come late to commemorate their departed patriarch, Jim Irsay, they decided against it in favor of a more conventional start. Though they don’t always get credit for it, they know the gravity of their positions and the spotlight that follows them.

“This is our business and we take it very seriously,” Carlie affirmed, underscoring their commitment to both the team and its fans. As they do so with one eye on next season, there needs to be an obvious urgency in the area of improvement.

Chris Ballard is the general manager, and Shane Steichen is the head coach. Together, they are the foundation of the Colts’ offensive blueprint going forward. Carlie was confident about their ability to fill the gaps that were the team’s biggest weaknesses. “Chris and Shane know that they have things they need to fix,” she remarked.

With high hopes for Richardson and other young players, the Colts aim to turn around their fortunes on the field. The Irsay sisters know that the team’s rebuild will take time, but have confidence in their approach and vision.

“I think he has all the potential in the world and if he wants to prove it, he can. He will if he wants to,” Carlie noted about Richardson’s future.

For the sisters, it’s the first time they travel this distance together. Along with the hurdles that come with being an NFL franchise, they illustrate the importance of the lessons their father bestowed upon them. They represent an incredible combination of passion and mission that personal connection makes. One-off drafts → Colts This combination has the potential to unlock an exciting, new chapter of Colts history.
