In a gripping cricket encounter on Friday, India secured a six-wicket win against Ireland, but the spotlight was firmly on 18-year-old Irish bowler Aimee Maguire, who was reported for a suspect bowling action. Maguire, who made her international debut in 2023, has already earned 20 caps for Ireland and taken 25 wickets across various formats. Despite her impressive performance, including taking three wickets in the opening game of the series, concerns over her bowling action emerged post-match.
Match officials handed a report to the Ireland team management after Friday's contest. This report cited concerns regarding Maguire's bowling technique. As per standard protocol, her action will undergo testing at an International Cricket Council-accredited testing centre, a process expected to take 14 days. During this period, Maguire can continue to bowl in international cricket until the test results are revealed.
Cricket Ireland's Director of High Performance, Graeme West, has expressed steadfast support for Maguire during this challenging time. He emphasized the organization's commitment to guiding her through the necessary adjustments.
"The staff and players are rallying around Aimee, reassuring her that she will return with a stronger action and will continue to shine on the international stage for many years to come," said Graeme West.
West further highlighted Cricket Ireland’s extensive resources aimed at nurturing Maguire's talent and ensuring her development through the remedial phase.
"The experience and expertise that we possess within our high performance coaching and support services at Cricket Ireland will provide Aimee with the care, support and guidance to deliver the remedial programme which will begin following the team's return from India," added West.
Maguire's immediate focus remains on the ongoing series against India. With another match scheduled for Sunday and the series concluding on Wednesday, she aims to contribute significantly to her team's efforts on the field despite the scrutiny.
