Ireland’s women’s cricket team clinched a series victory against Pakistan by winning the second Twenty20 international match on Friday. In the high-stakes must-win contest, Ireland posed a difficult task. They chased down a target of 171 runs in just 18.4 overs, losing only six wickets. Orla Prendergast led the charge for Ireland, contributing a solid 51 runs, while Laura Delany added 42 runs to the total. The Aussie-born duo put on a terrific platform for Ireland’s innings. Team captain Gaby Lewis provided a world-class performance that helped magnify their impact.
In reply, Pakistan too kept pace with the scoring and reached 168 runs for six wickets in their allotted 20 overs. In an other‐worldly performance, Sulfiqar became the star player for Pakistan with just 33 runs. At the other end, compatriot Natalia Pervaiz supported him well with a bright 31 run knock. Despite their best efforts, the Pakistani side just managed to miss the target mark.
Rameen Shamim was the pick of the bowlers for Pakistan, taking 3-36. One of Ireland’s most important rounders, Lara McBride returned to provide stiff competition, taking two wickets for just 27 runs. With superb tight bowling from both teams combined for a very tense finish as Ireland chased down the winning target.
The game enjoyed its finale act as Jane Maguire hit a six off the final ball. This spectacular piece of fielding finished off Ireland’s triumph and took their winning total up to 172 runs. This beautiful goal was the one that won the game for Ireland. It secured the series and increased their momentum as they march on in T20 cricket.
With this latest victory, Ireland has now won nine consecutive T20 matches, showcasing their growing prowess on the international stage.
