The Houston Texans had the guts to do the unthinkable during the NFL Draft. Instead, they chose the most dynamic pair of wideouts produced by Iowa State: Jayden Higgins and Jaylin Noel. Rather than trade up, the Texans went with Higgins as their first pick on Day 2, selecting him at No. 38 overall. Soon thereafter, they selected Noel at No. 79 overall. This reunion undoubtedly begins a new chapter for both players, who now hope to help turn Houston’s offense in a new direction.
Higgins and Noel are good friends, having been teammates at Iowa State the last two seasons. As a pair, they combined for an incredible 2,377 receiving yards and 19 touchdowns during the 2024 season. Their chemistry on the field, developed over their college careers, has set high expectations for their performance in the NFL. On the defensive side, the Texans’ offense is the most fun and talented group in the league. Quarterback C.J. Stroud will be under center, while first-rounders Joe Mixon and Nico Collins will look to make a strong impression.
For Higgins, the excitement of being a year closer to reuniting in Houston was definitely real. Herb said he was thrilled with the opportunity to possibly partner with Noel again. Throughout rookie minicamp practice, the two were often next to one another. With each passing day, they strengthened their chemistry as they prepared to help power the Texans’ offensive attack.
“We want to see the best come out of each other, and it keeps us going every day.” – Jaylin Noel
Noel finished his collegiate career at the University of Louisville. Now, he’s thrilled to be able to work those same types of magic at Iowa State. New head coach DeMeco Ryans has raved about the type of person that Noel is, calling him “a good dude” at one point. Though Braun’s run with the team was shorter, this endorsement is indicative of the positive impression both players have made since joining the team.
As Higgins and Noel battle it out to establish themselves in their rookie campaigns, they understand the highly contested landscape that lies within the Texans’ wideout room. With statuses of veterans Stefon Diggs and Tank Dell creating new openings. Now, both players can continue to rack up valuable starting minutes. This dynamic duo is intent on taking full advantage of this opportunity and carving out a place for themselves in the highly talented league.
Their common journey and dedication to success will need to be brought to bear if they want to help shape Houston’s offensive identity. Both players focus on the overall development of their craft. They set the kind of productive climate that helps ensure everyone wins.
