Injury Strikes Bills as Palmer is Placed on IR Ahead of Wild-Card Game

The players were widely expected to at least be restated in a home game wild-card test against the first-year AFC South champs. He is out due to an ankle sprain. Palmer missed practice all week and was even listed as questionable coming into the pivotal AFC North clash. On Saturday, he was downgraded to out and put on IR. This move is quite surprising for the team’s volatile and dynamic offensive lineup.

Palmer’s ankle injury has exacerbated the difficulties he had already been struggling with this season. He further battled with knee issues, which limited him to an average of 11.5 games played per regular season. He came back to play in Week 18 against the New York Jets, playing 84% of the snaps. Ultimately his health didn’t allow him to continue playing in the postseason. Head Coach Sean McDermott said he was unsure of Palmer’s availability leading up to the game. Unfortunately, he had to break the awful news to them as they were preparing for their playoff run.

To fill the void left by Palmer, the Bills signed linebacker Baylor Spector to the active roster. This second move is to strengthen their defense with the losses of their receiving corps. Newly-acquired WR Keon Coleman will make his debut. The team is left with just five receivers on the active roster. Andre Jones Jr. has been elevated from the practice squad. It plugs a valuable piece of individualized depth into the roster to help alleviate injuries.

On the positive side, McDermott brought us some good news on other players, which would seem to point toward Thompson “should be good” for the game. Palmer may have played his last game of the season after officially being ruled out for the rest of the postseason. The Bills will have to make quick adjustments to maintain their offensive groove against the Jags.
