Pakistani left-hander Imam-ul-Haq showed extraordinary touch and grit. His efforts helped Yorks to a surprise seven-wicket Roses win after the pre-match favourites, Lancashire, were never allowed to settle in a fantastic contest. The match, part of this season’s One-Day Cup, took place at Headingley, where Imam-ul-Haq’s outstanding innings of 117 runs off 124 balls proved pivotal in chasing down a target of 295 runs.
Imam-ul-Haq proved his marvelous form as he completed his ton in 118 balls. He completed his hundred with a huge third six off bowler Bailey, showcasing his big hitting prowess. This most recent milestone is his 4th career occurrence of hitting consecutive List A centuries. It simply speaks to Ross’ outstanding level of performance in this unique format.
Partnered with Imam-ul-Haq, Will Luxton, on debut, constructed a near-mature partnership. It was their collaboration, which the industry recognized at the recent Yorkshire awards, that proved critical to Yorkshire’s success. Their partnership was a sublime 153 runs for the second wicket, laying the groundwork for a comfortable chase. Imam-ul-Haq scored rapidly, clipping 10 fours and five sixes, underlining his comfort in commanding the bowlers and anchoring a run-chase.
Nevertheless, one thing is for certain — Imam-ul-Haq has been nothing short of magnificent this season. He has been on fire, rocketing to the top as the leading run-scorer in this year’s One-Day Cup, racking up 331 runs. He scored his third century in only his third match, bringing the hundred up in just 72 balls. With this peak, he’s undeniably an overpowering threat to win the whole show.
Despite his impressive performance, Imam-ul-Haq’s innings concluded when he was caught at midwicket on the pull against Arav Shetty’s spin. Without his contributions Yorkshire would not have made it to their target, if of course, Yorkshire did make it, easily.
As the game went on, Yorkshire followed in Imam-ul-Haq’s graceful footsteps to form a winning partnership. His anchor innings not only anchored the chase but provided enough momentum to clinch it, showcasing his value to the franchise. Even after his unexpected departure, Yorkshire managed to keep their heads and saw the chase home, completing a stunning chase to lift the title.
