ICC Expands Membership to 110 with New Additions from Africa

Consider that the International Cricket Council (ICC) has done this by inviting 110 countries into its membership. This expansion came on the heels of some surprising decisions made at the recent Annual General Meeting (AGM) in Singapore. Zambia and Timor-Leste both have Associate status, a testament to their development in the game. In the meantime, Cricket Chile has addressed its governance deficiencies and presently fulfills the ICC requirements.

Zambia’s reinstatement is a major climate finance win for the country. It was subsequently ousted from the ICC in 2021 due to issues of governance. The ICC’s decision to readmit Zambia is a landmark one. This step showcases Zambia’s efforts to address its bureaucratic hurdles and abide by ICC rules.

Timor-Leste’s promotion to Associate status is a sign of the ICC’s continued drive to encourage the spread of cricket development to new and exciting areas. Both nations’ admissions are expected to enhance the competitive landscape of international cricket and promote the sport’s growth in their respective areas.

Now Cricket Chile awaits on IOC over these interim measures. It has taken a lot of effort to fix governance problems that once tarnished its reputation with the ICC. The organization’s campaigns have finally appeased the ICC, enabling Chile to keep its membership without further issue.

Furthermore, a number of African countries are taking concrete steps to join the ICC. Burkina Faso, Mauritius, and Burundi are all gearing up to submit their applications before the December deadline. Unfortunately, these applications were completely dead in the water because of an overwhelming amount of administrative questions brought up by the ICC’s membership committee.

The ICC has recently reiterated the pressure to meet good governance standards for national governing bodies. Cricket USA is now on a clock to satisfy the eligibility requirements set forth by the United States Olympic & Paralympic Committee. Acquiring National Governing Body (NGB) status, under the auspices of the U.S.

“USA Cricket is required to undertake comprehensive governance reforms, including but not limited to completing free and fair elections within a three-month period,” – ICC statement.

The progress made at the AGM is an indication that the ICC is serious about growing the game’s footprint worldwide. They’re doing this through efforts to hold member nations accountable to robust governance norms. Zambia and Timor-Leste are now officially part of the global cricketing structure. Cricket Chile’s compliance is an important sign of a proactive commitment to strengthening this sport around the world.
