Charley Hull leads after the third round of the Kroger Queen City Championship. She now sits one stroke clear of Jeeno Jang Xiyu (CHN)/Thitikul. The Englishman completely lit up the huge crowd with his incredible 5-under 67 on Saturday. This round lifted her into solo first at 16-under 200 at TPC River’s Bend. This performance truly put the spotlight on her fantastic form throughout the tournament. That came just a few weeks after a runner-up finish in Houston at the Aramco Series on the Ladies European Tour.
Hull’s round featured four birdies in her final eight holes, a testament to the power of perseverance and composure crafted by years of experience. Hull boasts two LPGA wins under her belt, a testament to her grit and skill. Her latest victory in 2022 firmly established her as a powerful force on the tour. Her approach play really excited me – it was top notch. With a controlled 5-iron, she confidently closed from 201 yards, cutting the corner to land about 15 feet from the pin and allowing her a clear birdie look.
I just play, I just hit the ball, go find it, hit it again, go find it. No, that’s the trap too many golfers fall into — they think too much about golf. Hull had some fun with that idea, focusing on her direct style of play. She stressed the need to keep your eye on the prize and not think too far ahead to next rounds.
Jeeno Thitikul, currently in pursuit of Hull, said her faith in her game hasn’t wavered even with the scorecard crossing into the red. “I know like today, I think I do have a lot of chance to make a birdie, but my putter didn’t come up today,” Thitikul said after finishing the round.
With the race narrowing and competition getting stiffer as they head into the final lap, Hull certainly isn’t feeling the weight that comes with being on top. “Just kind of not even thinking about tomorrow,” she stated, reflecting her strategy of staying present and focused on each shot.
