Hughes and Del Solar Share Lead at Myrtle Beach Classic

Mackenzie Hughes and Cristobal Del Solar are tied for the second-round lead at the Myrtle Beach Classic. Whatever you call them, both players were downright dazzling on Friday. Hughes, a Canadian golfer, recorded a 2-under 69 in challenging windy conditions, while Del Solar, hailing from Chile, matched him with a similar score. The duo currently find themselves at 10-under 132 going into the weekend of this tour stop on the PGA Tour.

The Myrtle Beach Classic offers a truly different opportunity. The eventual winner is awarded an invaluable place in that year’s PGA Championship, assuming they are not already qualified. The tournament coincides with the Truist Championship, one of the new PGA Tour’s significant elevated events. Fans and players are fully committed to, and captivated by both competitions.

Hughes started the tournament in fantastic form, tied for the lead after an opening round 67. During his second round, he marked four birdies and two bogeys, showcasing his ability to navigate the difficult conditions effectively. Nick Watney just a stroke behind him. He carded an impressive score of 67 to end the day and now sits only a stroke back.

Danny Walker, Harry Higgs, Will Chandler and the recently-teal Davis Shore are T9 at 9-under. They sit only one shot back of the top two. Fierce competition is evident as the field heads into a potentially dramatic weekend of golf.

“I’m in a good spot going into the weekend,” Hughes expressed, highlighting his confidence as he approaches the final rounds.

Del Solar shared his thoughts on his performance as well, stating, “I’ve been putting in the work, playing good golf, feeling more comfortable. Happy to be where I am.” This optimistic outlook might serve him well as he looks to hold on to his place in the competition.

Hughes and Del Solar are proving their amazing talent and calm under pressure. Fans are already counting down the days to the epic clash this Saturday and Sunday! As they compete for the title and the chance to qualify for the PGA Championship, every stroke will count in this closely contested event.
