The Houston Texans’ ownership expressed a renewed sense of optimism following the team’s disappointing playoff loss last January. Cal McNair & Hannah McNair The McNair family continues to have full control of the franchise. They felt a different vibe this time around, even with the team’s eight penalties for 82 yards in the divisional round. As they look forward to the 2025 season, both owners are equally optimistic. They are confident about the progress towards success the Texans can help them achieve.
Hannah McNair was candid in discussing the team’s prospects. Regardless of how Watson’s situation plays out, she thinks the Texans are in a significantly better place as they head into 2025. That happiness is a product of the plentiful high-impact upgrades acquired after the offseason. Aside from massive revisions on the unit on the offensive line, adjustments on the coaching staff have been made.
To address all of last year’s problems, the Texans completely remodeled their offensive line. This change was much needed, as quarterback C.J. Stroud was pressured on 38.6% of his dropbacks en route to an incredible 52 sacks taken. The point is that the front office moved fast. They axed offensive line coach Chris Strausser and promoted assistant coach Cole Popovich to replace him. Additionally, the team traded Pro Bowl left tackle Laremy Tunsil and left guard Kenyon Green while releasing right guard Shaq Mason.
>To further shore up their beleaguered offensive line, the Texans claimed former New England Patriots center Jake Andrews off waivers. They did so just a few days after the draft. On paper, this is a bold move to invigorate our stagnant offense. Last year, it was 22nd in the league. The Texans made a notable change at offensive coordinator, replacing Bobby Slowik with Nick Caley in hopes of improving overall team performance.
Here’s hoping Cal McNair meant what he said about having high expectations for his team. We anticipate seeing us improve a lot this year. This feeling speaks to the franchise’s desire to improve and grow on an ongoing basis as they look ahead towards the 2023 season.
New head coach DeMeco Ryans has made a strong first impression. He is raising the bar on what success looks like for the team! At minicamp last month, he reiterated his intention to “win it all.” This paraphrase further exemplifies his iron will and mercurial approach to his competitive nature and desire to take the Texans to the promised land.

Clearly, Ryans’ collaborative attitude is refreshing for players and management – on all levels. He believes in an unwavering commitment to excellence, stating, “Everything that I’ve always done in life is to be the best. So how can you go to work, and it’s like, ‘Oh, I’m OK just giving it a good shot?’ I just never understood that.” The key to his philosophy, though, is to implant that winning mentality in everyone in the organization.
The Texans haven’t just hit the market with flash and bravado, though. They signed veterans Christian Kirk and Braxton Berrios, talents who’ll immediately help their offense and produce a top-5 unit. Moreover, signing Iowa State newcomers Jayden Higgins and Jaylin Noel infused some youthful swagger and talent into the fold.
Poised striker Hannah McNair called back to their playoff game from last season when penalties played a hand in their outcome. We made them one-dimensional on the other side of the field. We did hand out a handful of unforced penalties, and that’s something that we need to tidy up. It had them still crossing the 50-yard line,” she said. She’s adamant all future playoff games should be held at home. “Philly, I want to see you show up for that divisional game at home,” she stated.
Cal McNair went a bit deeper on how confident he is in the recent decisions that have been made internally in the organization. What feels good to us is the last two years in a row we’ve had those great outcomes,” he said. He said he was optimistic the additions to their roster and moves during the offseason would continue to have fruitful results.
“With those types of calls, if that goes the other way, [we’re] winning that game, in my opinion.” – Hannah McNair [ESPN]
Cal and Hannah McNair are getting ready for what will be an important season in the future direction of the franchise. They are keenly aware of the hurdles that wait ahead. Yet, they do not lose sight of their ultimate goal—creating the best possible environment for success and creating a culture of continuous improvement.
