Houston Rockets' rookie sensation Reed Sheppard faces a setback as he is set to miss at least four weeks due to a fractured right thumb. The injury was sustained during the Rockets' triumphant match against the New Orleans Pelicans on Friday night. The promising young player fractured the top of his thumb, which according to Rockets coach Ime Udoka, is a "better outcome" compared to a fracture in the lower portion.
The incident occurred when Sheppard attempted to slap down on the ball while fouling Zion Williamson. Despite the injury, Sheppard's spirits remain high, with Coach Udoka reassuring fans that the injury is not severe. The recovery process will involve wearing a splint for approximately four weeks.
Sheppard, the third pick in last year's draft, has been an emerging talent for the Rockets. This season, he averages 3.9 points, 1.4 rebounds, and 1.2 assists per game. His contribution has been valuable, and the team will undoubtedly feel his absence on the court.
Coach Udoka announced Sheppard's injury status on Saturday, expressing optimism about his recovery. The fracture location is considered less concerning, offering a better prognosis for a swift return. The team remains hopeful that Sheppard will bounce back stronger after his recovery period.
