Hoshino Withdraws from Genesis Scottish Open After Struggling Performance

Japanese golfer Riku Hoshino withdrew from the Genesis Scottish Open. He had a tough day on the Robert Trent Jones Jr.-designed course at The Renaissance Club in North Berwick, Scotland. The 29-year-old began his day on the back nine. He ended with 3-over-par after completing just 16 holes before withdrawing from the tournament.

Hoshino’s round saw a lot of ups and downs, making five bogeys and two birdies. His mental and physical issues came to a head with a bogey on the par-4 seventh hole, leading him to withdraw and leave the tournament altogether. This selective withdrawal — if it happens — emphasizes Hoshino’s up and down campaign on the PGA Tour. Sure, he has made his last six cuts, but he’s missed nine.

Despite this blow, Hoshino has a glittering record on the Japanese Tour, where he has won six times. In 2018, he went on to become the league’s Rookie of the Year. This accomplishment made him the breakout star of the sport. Further, he has one victory of Europe’s DP World Tour, highlighting his ability to play against the best in the world.

This season on the PGA Tour, Hoshino has achieved five top-50 finishes, showcasing his potential to perform well against a competitive field. His shrewdness in Japan and success across Europe illustrate a considerable acumen. He does so with the fierce determination to conquer international competitors.
