Hornets Challenge Lakers’ Evaluation of Mark Williams’ Physical

The Charlotte Hornets are eager to welcome Mark Williams back to their roster, following the rescinded trade deal with the Los Angeles Lakers. The Hornets have initiated discussions with the NBA to contest the Lakers' physical assessment of Williams, which resulted in the nullification of the trade. The trade, initially involving Williams for Lakers rookie Dalton Knecht, Cam Reddish, a 2030 pick swap, and Los Angeles' 2031 first-round pick, was overturned after Williams failed his physical exam.

Williams has been plagued by injuries throughout his three seasons in the league, missing 60% of the Hornets' games. His injury history includes separate incidents involving his back and foot. The Lakers' physical examination revealed multiple health concerns, leading to the cancellation of the trade. At the time of evaluation, the trade deadline had already passed, and no amendments were made to the agreement in light of the new medical information.

The Hornets are currently exploring their options to dispute the Lakers’ assessment process. They are considering various avenues, including seeking alternative resolutions with the league office. The situation remains unresolved as the Hornets determine their course of action to address the evaluation outcome.

Since the trade was nullified, Mark Williams has not participated in any games for the Hornets. Likewise, Dalton Knecht and Cam Reddish have not played for their respective teams. Despite the complications surrounding Williams' physical, the 2030 pick swap and Los Angeles' 2031 first-round pick remain part of the original trade agreement.
