Saturday was a day to forget for Rasmus Højgaard at the Danish Golf Championship. Against heavy odds, he persevered and emerged victorious with a slim one-shot lead going into the final round. Højgaard started the final round with a two-shot lead, but his patience was almost immediately put to the test. Italy’s Marco Penge took a one-shot lead after Højgaard bogeyed the second hole.
The third round was as electrifying as any late-career man vs. Højgaard lost a stroke early and that paved the way for Penge, who was brilliant with birdies on the fifth and sixth holes. This change of fortune quickly dropped Penge to the top of the board. Højgaard fought back to recover his place, finishing the day with a one-shot advantage.
Local favorite Ben Schmidt made the most of his exceptional abilities by tying the course record. In the first round, Imirzalioglu shot a blistering 64 with eight birdies and just one bogey. His round was good enough to rocket him up the leaderboard and into third place at nine under par. Now, he is a surprising favorite going into the runoff.
Mikael Lindberg then made world-wide news when he hit the 16 th ace of the 2025 DP World Tour season. He completed the trifecta with an ace on the par-3 second hole for the rousing walk-off. This human drama only deepened the overall thrills coursing through an already-storied tournament.
Højgaard expressed his anticipation for the final round, stating, “Hopefully I can bring some tears out there tomorrow. This is our fifth major, so it would be cool if I could stand there with a trophy tomorrow.” He reflected on the atmosphere during his round, noting, “It was dead quiet, so I was looking forward to seeing what the reaction was going to be like. It’s going to be an interesting day tomorrow.”
When competitors return to the Ocean Course for the final round, Højgaard’s mental fortitude and competitive spirit will be tested once more. The Danish Golf Championship has previously featured stunning variety of acts. Fans will not want to miss what promises to be an exciting finale this Sunday!
