In the process, 28-year-old Gede Priandana, a Muslim bowler from Indonesia, made history. He became the first bowler in history to take five wickets in one over of a T20 international match! In a recent game against Cambodia, Priandana proved his awesomeness, as he displays here. This extraordinary feat brought attention to his outstanding accuracy on the field.
In the over, Priandana began with a dot ball before dismissing Mongdara Sok and Pel Vannak on either side of a wide delivery. Then he followed that amazing effort by eliminating Shah Abrar Hussain, Nirmaljit Singh, and Chanthoeun Rathanak. He pulled this off on his very first three pitches. Priandana stamped his authority on the field with a brilliant performance with the ball. He took 5 wickets for only 1 run in his only over bowled.
The 21-year-old, who usually plays as a fast bowler, has become one of the core players in the fledgling Indonesian national side. He’s taken 24 wickets at an average of 17 which is truly bad-ass. Further, he has taken 1,040 runs at a 19.62 average in 63 T20 matches. His contributions further shore up his team’s remarkable run so far on the international stage.
Abhiram Singh Yadav, the coach of the Indonesian cricket team, praised Priandana’s achievement, stating, “Today Indonesia showed two things at once: the ability to execute games and win, and the ability to produce world-class moments.” He further emphasized the significance of Priandana’s performance, saying, “Five wickets in one over is a symbol of discipline, courage and the training standards we continue to build.”
