Russell Henley surged to the forefront of the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am by birdying his last two holes, ending with an impressive 8-under 64. Meanwhile, Viktor Hovland, Cam Davis, Jake Knapp, and Justin Rose all delivered strong performances, each carding 65 at Pebble Beach. Sepp Straka and Rasmus Hojgaard mirrored their achievements with matching 65s at Spyglass, setting a high bar for competitors.
Scottie Scheffler marked his 100th PGA Tour round since 2022, maintaining his streak with just one bogey or fewer. Despite this remarkable consistency, he settled for a 70 after a challenging day. Rory McIlroy and Shane Lowry each achieved a hole-in-one on different courses, adding excitement to the event. The weather conditions were calm with a touch of cloud cover and cool temperatures, providing ideal conditions for low scoring.
Pebble Beach is renowned for offering scoring opportunities, especially within its first seven holes. Scheffler found himself 1 over until a strategic fairway metal shot on the par-5 14th allowed him to secure a two-putt birdie. His only bogey occurred on the 10th hole at Spyglass. Despite missing just one green during his round, Scheffler faced challenges that tested his resilience.
Scheffler recently returned to the course after a month-long hiatus due to a freak injury while making ravioli. He expressed satisfaction with his performance, stating he "likes what he saw today" following his round. In contrast, Jordan Spieth struggled with birdies drying up after a promising start on Spyglass Hill's back nine. Spieth was returning from an absence since August due to season-ending surgery on his left wrist.
