Women’s team general manager London Spirit this week announced the appointment of Heather Knight, the England former captain, to the role. This role is a huge accomplishment in her sports career. Knight has played an integral role in the Spirit since its inception back in 2021. Now, she’ll be looking to do the same in this new role, working in tandem with director of cricket Mo Bobat. This appointment comes after a series of achievements and challenges in her playing career, including leading the team to a championship title in 2024.
At 34 years old, Knight brings a deep reservoir of experience to the England women’s set-up. She captained London Spirit for the first four editions of The Hundred. In accomplishing that goal, she established herself as an essential part of the team’s growing process. In-game strategy, along with her strong leadership, created the right mix of ingredients for the team’s 2024 championship victory—the apex of her tenure with the Spirit. A hamstring strain forced her out of competitive action in 2025. Even with this disappointing news, Knight remained committed to the organization. As her time at Stanford progressed, she embraced a mentorship and coaching role to help her teammates grow.
Knight’s profound knowledge of the women’s game really prepares her to share unique perspective as she moves into management. Mo Bobat, commissioner for the UKIA, said Knight was an incredible choice for this new role. He pointed out her 1%-er approach to performance optimization. This inspiration will continue to fuel the London Spirit’s journey to success.
Outside of her managerial duties, Knight has decided against participating in the 2026 edition of The Hundred. This decision frees her up to fully embrace her new position, while remaining devoted to the sport she loves. She remains committed to playing for England and Somerset at the international and domestic levels, respectively. Even outside of the game, she continues to strengthen her devotion to it.
