In a thrilling match at Tynecastle, Hearts completed the comeback of a lifetime. They came back from being 3-0 down to draw 3-3 away at Motherwell. The game on Saturday provided an extraordinary showing from Claudio Braga. He netted a brace, capped by a crucial 74th-minute equalizer! The outcome leaves Hearts perched atop the table, having begun the day on the heels of two straight league wins.
Motherwell were completely in charge of the first hour of the game, as they started on the front foot. Callum Slattery opened the scoring in the 21st minute with a powerful shot that found the back of the net. Tawanda Maswanhise got in on the act, doubling Motherwell’s advantage just minutes later. Emmanuel Longelo soon doubled their lead, bringing the score to 3-0 and leaving Hearts would-be survival hopes in tatters.
Hearts, desperate for a swift counterattack response, started organizing again. Harry Milne pulled a goal back in the 64th minute to reignite Hamilton’s hopes of a comeback. Opposition manager Derek McInnes made a tactical switch that turned the tide, inserting Beni Baningime and Braga at the half. Their energy proved infectious and their presence injected renewed passion into the team’s performance.
Braga’s opener within a minute of Milne’s, with considerable deflation on the visiting sideline, seemed to further propel the home side. Hearts built upon this momentum, forcing Braga on the back foot. Three minutes later, the visitors struck back again, Braga scoring his second to make it 3-3 in the 74th minute. His wonderful performance lifted everyone’s spirits on the team. It refreshed his sense of responsibility in the wake of a tough weekend.
“I felt much better about myself after scoring those goals,” said Braga after the match.
Despite the dramatic turn of events, Motherwell’s manager Jens Berthel Askou remained optimistic about his team’s performance. Unfortunately for him, his side have lost three on the bounce. They finished this match with their third straight draw.
“It’s very clear that we are getting better every week,” stated Askou.
The game played out like a story of two halves. Disgruntled Hearts’ supporters showed their displeasure as the first half wore on with Motherwell enjoying the majority of possession and dictating the tempo of the game. McInnes’s tactical adjustments at halftime revitalized the squad, allowing them to claw back into contention and ultimately secure a valuable point.
