Otherwise, Hassan Nawaz would have produced a stunning rate of exquisite batting. He became the first player from Pakistan to hit the fastest T20 century. Nawaz stole the show in Auckland’s Eden Park during the third T20I against New Zealand. This was an amazing achievement, as he did it in only 44 balls! His explosive innings of 105 runs propelled Pakistan to a nine-wicket victory and revitalized their chances in the five-match series.
Having played in just his third international match, his performance was only his third international cap, Hassan Nawaz dazzled with his commanding presence. Nawaz suffered the ignominy of ducks in his first two international outings for Pakistan. He staged a remarkable fightback, bringing up his half-century in just 26 balls with a memorable six. This ebullient and aggressive approach would go on to define Pakistan’s innings. He combined wonderfully with Mohammad Haris to put together a firm 74-run opening stand.
As the game went on, Nawaz only started to pick up steam, batting in tandem with captain Salman Agha. Not only was his strategic play to remove the big guns from both sides to keep the score board ticking at an alarming pace. It was a masterclass from Nawaz, his century a beautiful marriage of precision and power. He brought up the win with back-to-back fours, clinching the win with four overs to go.
Nawaz's outstanding knock not only secured Pakistan's win by nine wickets but breathed new life into the series, keeping their hopes alive. His performance was not only a personal accomplishment, but a key factor in the team’s overall success.
