Prolific Bayern Munich hitman Harry Kane has only recently switched his international allegiances. He is understandably intrigued by the prospect of making his return to the Premier League. The English forward has been a revelation at Bayern since coming over this summer. He has much less urge to go back home to England now. Kane is on a timeline that extends beyond his current contract, which has two more seasons remaining. He’s now excited to be talking about adding to his time in Bavaria.
Kane’s remarks come as Bayern Munich are reportedly working to fend off growing Premier League interest in the England star’s future. Sporting director Christoph Freund recently praised Kane, stating that the footballing world is “probably witnessing the best version of Harry Kane there has ever been.” This acknowledgement is further evidence of Kane’s incredible impact on the team. He was the key attacking figure in bringing the club its first Bundesliga championship since his transfer.
A New Chapter in Bavaria
When Harry Kane left for Bayern Munich last summer, he was convinced he’d eventually return to Tottenham Hotspur. That was the club that he crafted his dreams from. Reflecting on his journey, he noted, “If you had asked me when I first left to go to Bayern, I would have said for sure I would come back.” Of course, after living in Germany and some personal accomplishments, his perspective has changed.
In fact, Kane conceded that his desire to go back to the Premier League eventually fizzled out. “Now I have been there a couple of years I would probably say that has gone down a little bit, but I wouldn’t say I would never go back,” he stated. Sane’s reversal on that score is a sign of how much he’s becoming settled and satisfied with life at Bayern, and the doors it has opened.
Also of interest to me was Kane’s observation about making a point to take opportunities when they present themselves earlier in your career. He acknowledged that circumstances can shift dramatically, saying, “What I have learnt in my career is that different opportunities and different timings happen and things fall in place.” His dedication to Bayern is unquestionable – just ask him, as on the day of his announcement he proclaimed himself “fully all in with Bayern.”
Motivated by Success
Kane’s first season with Bayern was marked by significant achievements, including lifting the Bundesliga trophy. Not only did this monumental triumph break his own personal trophy drought but equipped him with returned incentive. “When you win a title like I did last year, maybe it could be easy to go the other way and be like, ‘OK I’ve done what I wanted to achieve’,” he explained.
Eager to not only repeat his success but build upon it both creatively and commercially, Kane is instead anything but complacent and satisfied. “It’s given me more motivation to do more and be better. I think I’ve shown that this year,” he added. His ambition clearly hasn’t waned either, as he’s been key to Bayern’s early success on the pitch as they still compete for trophies.
According to the 28-year-old, he has only touched base on such matters once. He wants to negotiate and remains open to discussing if that opportunity arises. “If it happens, it happens. I don’t think there is any need to rush anything on both parts,” he noted. He made it clear that any deal made had to suit his needs as well as the club’s needs.
Future Considerations
Kane’s future has become a topic of rampant speculation, and a potential move to Major League Soccer (MLS) has been thrown into the mix. According to Kane, that kind of shift is just too early. “I think MLS is too early for sure – the way I feel right now, the way I am playing right now,” he asserted. He seems to be all-in on the job that he’s doing at Bayern Munich. He promises to leave a substantial dent on the landscape of European football.
Brentford’s boss, Thomas Frank, has left the door open for a Kane return to his former north London stomping grounds. He implies that the door is still open for a reunion. That said, with how Kane is playing and how happy he is at Bayern Munich, any move back to the Premier League feels very much up in the air.
