Hales Hits 74 to Propel Trinbago Knight Riders and Climb T20 Rankings

It was experienced English cricketer, Alex Hales who most deservedly made the headlines on the field with a blistering 74. His superb all-round display helped the Trinbago Knight Riders to a six-wicket win over the Guyana Amazon Warriors in the Caribbean Premier League. This historic match took place at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy in Trinidad. It was during T20 cricket that Hales truly showcased his magnificent talents, stamping his passport as one of the greatest T20 players of all-time.

With this latest innings, Hales has added to his already-illustrious total of 14,024 runs. This milestone now puts him as the second-most highest run scorer in the history of T20. He was the best player on the court in Game 5 with a phenomenal performance against the Warriors. He struck three fours and seven sixes in only 43 balls. Hales’ innings contributed significantly to his team’s victory and allowed him to surpass Kieron Pollard, who previously held the second spot in T20 run-scoring.

The Knight Riders only needed to chase down a target of 164 runs to win. Hales found support in the form of Colin Munro, with the pair compiling a powerful opening stand of 116 runs for the first wicket. Their partnership gave the Knight Riders a strong platform as they looked to chase down a win. She was out when her team still required only 27 runs to win. His previous contribution had done enough to establish the tone of the victory.

In addition to his impressive score, Hales added a quick 20 runs with Kieron Pollard before they crossed the finish line together. Pollard ended things in style with 19 runs from just nine balls to finish unbeaten. He made sure that the innings finished in style with 13 balls still remaining.

For one thing, Hales has made a boatload of T20 runs. He is now only 538 runs away from dethroning Chris Gayle, who claimed the all-time title of 14,562 runs. At 36 years old, Hales shows no sign of giving into age or expectation, playing with the artistry and fight necessary to thrive on the pitch. As evidenced by his recent performances, he still has plenty left in the tank to compete at the highest level of T20 play.

Following his blistering innings, Hales spoke of his appreciation to be on the winning side of a successful team. More than anything, though, he loved the chance to compete at the highest level. Secondly, he is an intensely passionate individual about the game. His all-round contributions to the Trinbago Knight Riders have been decisive in their quest for success during this season’s Caribbean Premier League.

“Rahul has been central to the Royals’ journey over many years. His leadership has influenced a generation of players, built strong values within the squad, and left an indelible mark on the culture of the franchise,” – Royals statement.
