Hagi Sets Sights on Europa League Triumph Amidst Contract Uncertainty

Ianis Hagi is a 26-year-old Romanian international football talent. With his contract with Rangers Football Club set to expire at the end of the 2022-2023 season, he finds himself in limbo going forward with the team. Hagi signed for Rangers from Genk in 2020. His attention is entirely on his own success as much as making his team’s run all the way to their Europa League semi-final.

Rangers, pictured above in the first leg of their quarter-final tie against Braga, drew 0-0 at Ibrox to secure a semi-final slot on aggregate. Hagi was instrumental, playing more than 80 minutes to help his team accomplish history. After having missed out on Rangers’ remarkable run to the Europa League final in 2022 due to injury, Hagi is determined to make his mark this season.

Just three games now separate the Rangers from what would be a remarkable second European final in three years. Hagi’s ambitions go beyond an impressive showing at the tournament. He told the BBC of his ambitions, admitting that dreaming of raising the Europa League trophy is the ultimate goal.

“My priority is to win on Thursday, get into the semi-finals, put my body on the line for this football club and see where that brings me and where that brings Rangers as well,” Hagi remarked, emphasizing his commitment to the team and its objectives.

Even with the thrill of contending for European glory, Hagi’s contract situation continues to be an issue of concern. With just a handful of months remaining on his existing contract, rumors about his future have started to swirl. I think we can all agree that Rangers are walking a delicate line in public right now. Behind the curtain, real progress on many sensible solutions has been lost in the drama that we must appreciate.

Despite that uncertainty, Hagi has not let the distraction stop him from pursuing his goal. He wants to focus on the immediate challenge at hand and contribute to the team’s success. “You never know when this can stop. I want to feel it because I’ve imagined it so long, being at a club at this level. I leave it up to God, one day at a time and I’m blessed,” he shared.

As Rangers prepare for their upcoming match in the Europa League quarter-finals, Hagi’s determination and passion for the game shine through. He knows that the road leading to winning takes more than being good. It takes great effort. It takes all of us. His desire to win and help his teammates succeed exemplifies the spirit of competition that drives professionals in elite sports.
