Defensive star Haason Reddick is now with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He’s physically prepared to take part in the team’s three-day mandatory minicamp that begins this week. Reddick comes to the camp following a difficult year with the New York Jets. Now, you’ve got somebody who’s inspired and wants to earn that trust.
In March, Reddick signed a one-year contract with the Buccaneers worth $14 million, with $12 million guaranteed. This deal is a huge accomplishment for Reddick. He was first traded from the Philadelphia Eagles to the New York Jets before eventually landing with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He’s in Tampa Bay to become the quarterback that can turn around their organizations fortunes. Once among the league’s most feared pass rushers, he’s focused on getting back to that explosive form.
Prior to last season, Reddick had a solid career-high total of 59 combined sacks. From 2020 on, he finished with double-digit sack totals in each of those seasons except one. In what was easily his most effective year as an Eagle, he posted a career-high 1.073 EPA per play. He tallied 16 sacks and led the NFL with five forced fumbles. His time with the Jets ended up being a colossal mistake. For someone of his caliber to record just one sack in all of 2024 was, as he described it, “very bizarre” and “weird.”
So far, Reddick’s presence with the Buccaneers during an otherwise quiet offseason has loomed large. Earlier last week, his trainer, Kenny Williams, released this video. It presented an incredible view of Reddick’s agility and straight line speed while in pass rush drills and while running the 40 yard dash. Each of these exercises encapsulates his desire to get back to the best version of himself before the 2023 season officially arrives.
Larry Foote, the Buccaneers’ linebackers coach, expressed optimism about Reddick’s mindset as he joins the team.
“With [Reddick’s] situation, he’s coming in with a big chip on his shoulder.” – Larry Foote
Reddick will line up opposite Yaya Diaby, the Buccaneers’ starting outside ‘backer. With Diaby’s strength and Reddick’s speed, the pair could be a game-changer to fill needs in Tampa Bay’s newfangled defensive strategy.
“He has speed that you can’t coach.” – Larry Foote
Tampa Bay looks to utilize Reddick’s skills to improve their defensive front heading into this season. He’s moving on to a fresh start with the Buccaneers. Eyes and expectations as usual are high, as he tries to retake the title of the biggest all-around terror on the football field.
Tampa Bay aims to leverage Reddick’s skills to bolster their defense in the upcoming season. As he transitions into this new chapter with the Buccaneers, expectations are high that he will reclaim his status as a formidable force on the field.
