Guimaraes Aims for Glory in First Tyne-Wear Derby of the Season

Bruno Guimaraes, the influential midfielder for Newcastle United, emphasized the importance of victory in the first Tyne-Wear derby of the season against Sunderland. He made a point that Newcastle needed to win at the Stadium of Light. This new victory will allow them to ring in their reign as “kings” of the northeast. The consequences for bragging rights are huge in this Super Sunday match. It might be less obvious, but it has a tremendous impact on each team’s position on the league table.

Guimaraes expressed his determination, saying, “We know if we want to be a king here, we have to win the derby. We can’t wait to get on Sunderland and play our best football, hopefully.” This ode to trash talk highlights the competitive energy that always surrounds this fierce series, the American historic rivalry.

While Guimaraes’ father won’t be in the stadium, he’ll instead be watching from Brazil. His father has undergone some rebranding as a cult figure on Tyneside. When not on the field, he’s frequently found shooting highlights of the action with his camera. Guimaraes joked that his dad shoots more photos than him at matches. Underscoring their profound family ties to Newcastle, this demonstrates how long they’ve been “all in” on Newcastle. Though he tried to persuade his father to make the trip for the match, other obligations in Brazil prevented him from coming.

The Brazilian international has continued to embrace Geordie culture since joining Newcastle United, fully diving into the culture of the Toon. As a point of personal pride, he considers the fact that he is raising his children in Newcastle to be a crowning achievement in his life. The Quarrymen boss will be hoping for a minimum of three points this weekend. He is aware that Newcastle and Sunderland are level-pegging in the league table.

Guimaraes held the full 90 minutes as he made the health FA Cup match. Newcastle kicked off the week with a tremendous 3-0 win over Sunderland in the Tyne-Wear derby. As he focuses on the big derby ahead, he concedes Sunderland have been a huge success this season. He thinks they should be celebrated for the work they do. They’ve done extremely well, and we have to give them tremendous credit. Their list of achievements is lengthy which creates a big game in front of us. We need to continue to have faith in ourselves, he added.

Teammate Dan Burn will be instrumental in preparing the squad for the last derby. He’s going to provide some awesome insight into why it’s important. Guimaraes recognized Burn’s contributions: “It’s very good for us having Dan Burn to explain exactly how it works for people who are not from Newcastle. He’s going to be very important this week.”

Now sitting just three points ahead of their opponents on the league table, Guimaraes knows how critical this match can be. He said, “We all know how tight we are with the teams around the table. For me it’s a derby and a game of six points and you take three and your opponent takes three away.” We just have to keep our eyes on our plan pretty tightly.” His emphasis on strategy is an indication of the importance with which he regards this potentially decisive game.

As the squad prepares for their biggest game of the season, Guimaraes believes a good mentality will prove pivotal. This game is very important to the fans and the players alike! He urged his teammates to train well and maintain focus: “We have to stick in a positive way, training well, focus on the game because games like that are always special… The derby is everything for everyone here in the club.”
