Grizzlies Trade Desmond Bane to Magic in Multi-Team Deal

The Memphis Grizzlies pulled off a blockbuster trade on Saturday, sending guard Desmond Bane to the Orlando Magic. In exchange, the Grizzlies received Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, Cole Anthony and the 23rd overall pick in this year’s draft. This trade represents an important change in direction for both teams as they prepare for their respective raises and offseasons.

The trade that had been brewing for months included the New Orleans Pelicans in a third-team trade. In hindsight, it’s incredible the Pelicans were able to reclaim their 2026 first-round pick. They picked up the 23rd overall pick in the process through this trade. They acquired the draft rights to G Mojave King. This smart move significantly increases their roster flexibility as they build towards the future.

The young guards showed flashes of brilliance though in his stint with the Grizzlies. The Magic saved all their first-round picks in this trade. This move allows them to strengthen their backcourt while holding on to their draft capital. His impact on the depth chart should massively improve Orlando’s scoring and playmaking abilities.

In the trade package sent to Memphis, veteran guard Kentavious Caldwell-Pope and promising talent Cole Anthony bring experience and depth to the Grizzlies’ lineup. Caldwell-Pope, known for his defensive prowess and three-point shooting, will likely play a pivotal role in Memphis’s plans moving forward. Cole Anthony’s youth and skill set could complement Memphis’s existing roster, adding versatility to their backcourt.

The New Orleans Pelicans’ participation in this trade is a testimony to their ongoing strategy of accumulating future assets. The Pelicans landed a ton of first-round picks, including the 16th overall pick. They acquired swap rights from Phoenix and Washington, setting themselves up to make trades and improve the roster going forward.

The Indiana Pacers are grabbing some great headlines this year! Note that through a separate deal with the Pelicans, they’ve managed to reacquire their own 2026 first-round pick. Yet this move is indicative of a much bigger trend in the league’s landscape today. Teams are surging into the future, aggressively remaking their rosters through forward-thinking trades and smart draft selections.

All of these trades paint a picture of the thrilling, frenetic, NBA offseason. Make no mistake, teams are out there taking advantage of opportunities to build their rosters in a competitive fashion. For the Grizzlies, Magic and Pelicans this marks the start of a new era. They are thirsty to climb up the order of preference in their league through these conscious efforts.
