Golden State Warriors Secure Kevin Knox II for Remainder of Season

The Golden State Warriors just did something brilliant. They did sign forward Kevin Knox II for the remainder of the season. At only 25 years of age, Knox II brings a combination of experience and upside to the offense. He developed those skills last year with the Detroit Pistons. During his time with the Pistons, Knox II averaged 7.2 points per game in 31 games played. He led the country with a gaudy shooting percentage of 46.2%. The former No. 9 pick from the 2018 draft is expected to fill a crucial roster spot for the Warriors.

During the Warriors’ championship run through February and March, Knox II showed off his thoroughbred potential on a national stage. He appeared in seven games after signing two separate 10-day contracts. That trial period was a success, so much so that the Warriors signed him to remain with the team for the rest of the season. The decision comes as the Warriors aim to meet the NBA's minimum requirement of 14 standard contracts after trading away several rostered players throughout the season. As it stands the team only has 13 players on guaranteed contracts.

The league’s deadline definitely injected a sense of urgency into this signing. With Knox II’s contract needing to be wrapped up by this Sunday, this move forced the Warriors’ hand to comply with NBA regulations while improving their roster depth. Knox II’s addition will give the team more flexibility and talent as they head down the home stretch of their campaign.
