Glamorgan Takes Command Against Lancashire in Crucial Promotion Clash

Glamorgan’s bowlers put their side in the ascendancy against promotion rivals Lancashire in the County Championship match at Emirates Old Trafford. They started day three with a commanding lead. Having posted an impressive 261 all out in their first innings, Glamorgan’s bowlers went to work and put on a stellar performance. They finished the second day in a commanding position at 95 for 2 in their second innings.

Their first innings saw Glamorgan’s batsmen make some impressive scores. Carlson’s 77 proved to be where the charge was led from in a veteran, well-crafted performance as Tribe’s 61 was very valuable. This great groundwork really helped LCC to set an ambitious target for Lancashire. Unfortunately, Mason Crane’s lack of performances in the bowling department stole most of the headlines. He completed a new personal best, picking up 6 wickets for just 19 runs! Complementing his storyline was a solid day by Green, who put on quite the performance, snaring 6 wickets for 82 runs.

In Lancashire’s first innings they were bowled out for 137, an embarrassing total for the county giants. Bohannon would go on to be the team’s top scorer, with a paltry total of 32 runs. Top Glamorgan’s bowlers ruled the roost for the entire innings, and it was Crane’s remarkable figures of 4-10 that headed the attack. Fernando posted his best figures of the tournament with 3-26.

As things stood at the close of play, Glamorgan were 219 runs ahead of a stubborn Lancashire side. They finished the second day’s play with eight wickets in hand on their second innings. Carlson still had the run of the crease, looking imperious as he shot to 43 not out to see them home to 95 for 2.

In a rather entertaining 43rd birthday celebration, James Anderson was able to take two wickets in Glamorgan’s second innings. Despite the challenging day, Lancashire’s captain Steven Croft remained optimistic about the team’s prospects moving forward.

“Not the day we wanted, though there’s still a chance if we bowl well, bowl them out and chase around 300-350.” – Steven Croft

Mason Crane was pleased with his performance, saying that the positive individual results came down to the hard work of everyone on the squad.

“It means a lot, any time you take a five-for is special so a career-best is great and it’s what all the hard work is for. I’m very happy but the way everyone else bowled let me do that, so it was a great day for the team.” – Mason Crane

Glamorgan’s bowlers showed remarkable control and aggression throughout Lancashire’s innings, and they will look to maintain this momentum as they head into the final stages of the match. Though Glamorgan have established a significant lead of 328 in their second innings. They are placed comfortably at the crease and seeming set to build a lead towards an essential win in their ongoing promotion push.
