Josh Giddey, the 22-year-old rising star of the Chicago Bulls, had his night cut short due to an unfortunate ankle injury. During the fourth quarter of the Bulls' commanding 121-103 victory over the Indiana Pacers, Giddey landed awkwardly on his right ankle, the same one he injured while representing Australia at the Olympics last summer.
Before his untimely exit, Giddey was having a stellar game. He had already amassed a season-high 29 points and 10 rebounds. His performance was a continuation of his outstanding form, having recorded a triple-double just two games earlier against Miami with 26 points, 10 rebounds, and 12 assists. This marked his eighth double-double in the last nine games, showcasing his consistent contribution since being traded from Oklahoma City to Chicago in June.
Bulls coach Billy Donovan confirmed the injury as a sprained ankle.
"This one you could just tell, it was pretty painful the way he came up." – Billy Donovan
The severity of the injury remains uncertain, and the team will have to wait for a day or two before determining the full extent of the damage.
Despite this setback, Giddey had shown resilience earlier in the season by recovering from his Olympics injury in time to start strong with the Bulls. His recent performances have been pivotal in securing the Bulls' current position in the Eastern Conference's final play-in spot. The victory over Indiana marked Chicago's third consecutive win, further solidifying their standing.
Giddey had previously rolled his ankle in another game but managed to recover quickly, indicating potential for a swift return this time as well. His ability to bounce back will be crucial for the Bulls as they continue their playoff push.
