What a week it was for the New York Football Giants. Quarterback Bryce Dart has cleared concussion protocol and rejoined his team in practice! Dart officially returned to the field Wednesday, making him the first QB to practice after his two-game absence. This was his complete game return after missing time with the concussion he took on November 9th. Time to start preparing for that all-important Week 6 clash against the New England Patriots. That’s happening in the middle of a franchise-record 12-game losing streak away from home.
Interim head coach Mike Kafka, who has served as the playcaller throughout the season, has had to navigate significant challenges. With Dart out, Jameis Winston became the starter and he led the Saints during this rough stretch. As the Giants look to end their losing streak, Kafka’s leadership will be pivotal in maximizing Dart’s return to the lineup.
Dart’s return is big, particularly given his recent concussion history. With that in mind, he’s been pulled to test for a concussion in four of his past eight appearances. The dynamic rookie signal caller has made seven starts this year. Combined with a challenging task such as leading the league with almost 10 hits per game. His ability to stay healthy will be key as the team looks to get back on track.
Prior to returning to practice, Dart saw an independent neurologist to determine his readiness to take the field again. The Giants will have a bye week following their matchup with the Patriots. This break provides a unique opportunity for players to reset and recuperate, if they require that.
Winston stressed that their work is still just beginning.
“Well, we’re still having the same conversations that we would have any given week.” – Jameis Winston
The Giants’ coaching staff remains focused on addressing the team’s performance issues and finding ways to improve their game plan. Just ask Brian Daboll, the day after Dart’s concussion. Now, it is up to Kafka to keep a young team from crumbling under the stormy conditions.
The Giants are getting to work preparing for their next game. Like Cincinnati, they hope to make the most of Dart’s return and reverse their misfortunes on the field. The stakes couldn’t be higher. They hope to end their road losing streak and to rebuild some confidence heading into their bye week.
