Giants Explore Quarterback Options Ahead of NFL Draft

The New York Giants have some interesting decisions to make as they head towards the 2024 NFL Draft. Holding the No. 3 overall pick, the Giants are considering their strategy with a focus on identifying a quarterback capable of leading them to Super Bowl victories. Additionally, General Manager Joe Schoen mentioned that the team had signed quarterbacks Wilson and Winston. They’re busy scouting future draft prospects like Ole Miss’ Jaxson Dart.

As things now stand, the Tennessee Titans would have the No. 1 overall pick. At the same time, the Giants are making plans to get the most out of their spot. With Wilson and Winston signed for under $15 million this season, the Giants have ensured depth in their quarterback lineup. Despite this, Schoen emphasized that selecting a quarterback at No. 3 would only occur if the chosen player meets all criteria necessary for a franchise leader.

“The ultimate goal is to win a Super Bowl if you’re taking a guy that high, so they have to be able to check [all] those boxes.” – Joe Schoen

Recently, the Giants made it known to Wilson that moving up to the top spot in the draft was a possibility. When pressed on the potential to trade up, Schoen certainly seemed open to that prospect. He noted that their investment decision process is very focused on matching the right value and fit.

“If it matches up, if the value is right, we can look at many positions and take a guy.” – Joe Schoen

New York’s still kicking the tires on Ole Miss’ Jaxson Dart. At the same time, they’re looking at top prospects like Miami’s Cam Ward and Colorado’s Shedeur Sanders, but nothing has been decided definitively yet. Schoen says that Wilson will start getting first-team reps in the spring. This opening is evidence of an overwhelming confidence in his existing roster.

“Yeah, if you’re talking about where we’re picking, you’d like that guy to be able to be a franchise quarterback that you can win with, you’re winning the NFC East every year.” – Joe Schoen

Of course Schoen was the one who floated the idea of trading up into the later stages of the first round. He even made the case for considering a Day 2 quarterback if they don’t take one with their first selection. Though Winston knows that the team could be planning to change their approach at quarterback, he is still an important player in Tampa’s plans going forward.
