George Pickens Embraces New Chapter as He Joins Dallas Cowboys

Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver George Pickens, 24, couldn’t be more excited to start a new chapter. He’s now with the Dallas Cowboys after being traded from the Pittsburgh Steelers. This transformation comes at a critical juncture in his tenure. He’s entering the fourth and final year of his rookie contract. So the trade announcement came as a shock to Pickens. He acknowledged that he found out about it just like everybody else.

Pickens has spent the last three seasons trying to develop this rapport with mostly other QB-turned-WR Kenny Pickett’s former fellow passers-in Pittsburgh harbor-mates Mitch Trubisky, Mason Rudolph, and surefire No Now, he’s just as excited to pair with Dak Prescott, a veteran presence who tossed 36 touchdown passes in 2023. I’d say one of the first dudes I was for sure [in touch] with was Dak,” Pickens said. His passion for Prescott is palpable. He really respects the quarterback’s talents and calls him, “One of the most prolific quarterbacks in the game—that’s just watching his game over the years. Smart QB at that. I’m lucky he agreed to work with us, I suppose.

During his short time with the Pittsburgh Steelers, Pickens made plenty of noise for his off-field concerns and even louder on-field episodes. Head coach Mike Tomlin raised eyebrows by insisting that Pickens “mature” was his main focus on the Pittsburgh stay. Looking back on his personal development, Pickens said, “I really can’t go back and shift anybody’s perception of me as a person. Just like I said, continue to grow.” Yet he knows that character building is the order of the day along this path. His simple answer is that everyone in the world needs to develop. The older you are, the younger you become. To be honest, man, I’m just trying to instill a winning culture, which is already instilled with the Cowboys. I’m just glad to be joining it.

Pickens to a new phase of his life. With affordable housing and transportation lined up, he says he looks forward to settling down in Texas full-time. Now, as CeeDee Lamb winks back at him, he can’t help but imagine the nasty things that he can do, his heart racing. Lamb has established himself as an absolute weapon, logging more than 100 receptions in three-straight years and four-straight 1,000 yard campaigns. When asked about manning the field alongside Lamb, Pickens said, “To be honest, that’s the first time I heard any of that stuff.” He continued, “I just thought, two receivers is just the typical thing.”

George Pickens is hoping to find a home with the Cowboys after being cut by the LA Rams. Here’s what he says about his new outlook on life. Honestly, I’m just kind of where my feet are right now,” he tells me. After these earlier failures, Pickens has a new focus and freedom to succeed. He wants to add to the Cowboys’ proven winning culture while furthering his own growth — on and off the field.
