George Kittle Signs Four-Year Extension Worth $76.4 Million with 49ers

It’s a good thing, too, because San Francisco 49ers star tight end George Kittle just got his huge new deal. The award value is $76.4 million over four years. This agreement keeps Kittle in the 49ers organization through the conclusion of the 2029 campaign. It includes the very good $40 million in guaranteed money! The extension commensurates with both his output on the field and the manner in which he’s shown a commitment to the team.

As he approaches his ninth NFL season in 2025, Kittle has some advice. He’s even talked about retiring in San Francisco. He expressed his desire to wear the team’s colors for as long as possible, stating, “My goal is to wear the red and gold my entire career.” It’s no surprise, then, that his dedication translates into a blistering performance. In 2024, Kittle put together one of his finest years yet, finishing third amongst tight ends in receiving yards while tying for second with eight touchdowns.

Kittle’s record speaks for itself. He touts being one of just five tight ends in NFL history to post four or more 1,000-yard receiving campaigns. He now joins an elite group of pass catchers that includes Travis Kelce, Rob Gronkowski, Tony Gonzalez, and Jason Witten. Kittle has now passed Gronkowski for the second-most receiving yards by a tight end in their first eight seasons. This accomplishment cements his legacy among the pantheon of the league’s greatest.

Kittle and the 49ers have their sights set on another championship run this season. He’s about to become the 49ers’ latest member of the elite 10-year club. This means he will have to play at least one more season with the team. This would recognize those players who have given 10 or more years of service to San Francisco. His new extension will further reduce his former $22,085,000 salary cap number in 2025 as well.

John Lynch, the 49ers’ General Manager, congratulated Kittle and spoke about his development since being drafted in the fifth round of the 2017 NFL Draft. He added that back in 2017, when it was our first year here with the 49ers, we drafted a little skinny tight end from Iowa. We really were truly enthusiastic over his prospects. We thought he would be great, but nobody could have realized back then that one day he’d be the player he has turned into today. He is truly passionate about the job. It’s all paid off as Rogers has blossomed into one of the top tight ends in the NFL.

Kittle’s teammate, Fred Warner, echoed these sentiments regarding Kittle’s ongoing performance. He remarked, “He’s doing a heck of a job. He’s always been great, but the fact that he’s making the plays that he’s making right now at this point in his career has been phenomenal.”
