Sergio Garcia delivered a stellar performance at LIV Golf Hong Kong, carding a 7-under 63 to clinch both the individual and team titles on Sunday. The Spanish golfer, who shared the final round's lead in a three-way tie, gained an early advantage with an eagle on the 551-yard No. 1. He further cemented his win with a birdie, eventually leading his team, the Fireballs, to victory at 37 under. This marks the sixth team title for the Fireballs, who also celebrated a win last week in Adelaide, Australia.
Garcia's triumph came alongside his teammates, fellow Spaniards David Puig and Luis Masaveu, and Mexico's Ancer. The victory was particularly meaningful for Garcia, who expressed satisfaction in seeing his teammates perform well.
"It was nice to see not only that I was doing well and leading the tournament, but my teammates were playing great," said Garcia.
At 45, Garcia has embraced the mentorship role for upcoming Spanish golfers, much like Seve Ballesteros and José María Olazábal did for him. With plans to continue building his career within LIV Golf, Garcia aims for future victories and prepares for significant tournaments, including Augusta.
Phil Mickelson also made headlines by shooting a 64 to secure third place, marking his first podium finish as a LIV member. At 54, Mickelson feels optimistic about his current form ahead of next month’s Masters.
"The fact is I'm hitting a lot of good shots, I'm playing some good golf," Mickelson stated.
South Africa's Dean Burmester delivered the day's standout round with a remarkable 62, securing second place at 15 under. Meanwhile, Lucas Herbert of Australia finished fourth with a score of 64, five strokes behind Garcia. England's Paul Casey ended in fifth place with a 69 at 12 under, while Peter Uihlein tied for sixth after shooting a 70.
The competition resumes next weekend at Sentosa Golf Club in Singapore, where players will continue to vie for glory.
