Former NFL Star Reshad Jones Defrauded of Over $2.5 Million

Even Reshad Jones, the former safety for the Miami Dolphins, has been taken in by a financial scheme. The con has set him back an incredible $2.58 million. The purported conspiracy at the heart of the crime involves a female financial planner and her ex-boss. They abused Jones’ trust and used that access to his personal finances. This arrangement is, unfortunately, a common exploitation found in the world of professional athletes.

Jones, who made over $56 million during his 10-year NFL career, initially gained recognition for his impressive performance on the field, particularly in the Pro Bowl selections of 2015 and 2017. He played his whole career with the Dolphins, dominating in 128 games and starting 113 of those games. He concluded his playing career in 2019 after being selected in the fifth round of the 2010 draft out of Georgia.

The allegations focus on Isaiah Williams, Jones’ former financial advisor, who stole more than $1.58 million from him. Williams had allegedly utilized his access to Jones’ personal bank account to further carry out the theft. Octavia Monique Graham remains incarcerated at the Paul Rein Detention Facility in Pompano Beach, Florida. She is accused of committing first-degree grand theft. She stands accused of laundering $1.03 million in fraudulent checks drawn on Jones’ account, even though Jones allegedly told investigators that he’d never met Graham.

Jones’ legal team has released a statement condemning the incident. They deemed the case “yet another troubling example.” It further sheds light on a professional athlete’s tragic exploitation by a wealth management firm he relied on and once trusted. With the full impact of the crisis laid out, attorneys Chase Carlson and Jeff Sonn emphasized that it was dire. Here’s how they’re leading the charge to hold those responsible accountable.

“In this case, the wrongdoer was a Vice President at one of the world’s largest financial institutions – Bank of America’s investment management division, Merrill Lynch. We have filed a lawsuit to hold Merrill Lynch accountable and are working to recover all damages our client has suffered.” – Chase Carlson and Jeff Sonn

As of this writing, Isaiah Williams has yet to be arrested or charged for his part in the alleged theft. Investigators are still conducting an active investigation into the case. They’re collecting further evidence to piece together Williams and Graham’s roles in this massive financial scandal.
