Finney-Smith Set to Miss Rockets’ Season Opener

Dorian Finney-Smith, a forward for the second-year Houston Rockets, will miss his club’s season opener. Their first test will come against the Oklahoma City Thunder on Oct. He’s in the process of recovering from offseason ankle surgery, which he had in June to fix a chronic injury.

Finney-Smith played for the Los Angeles Lakers, then signed with the Rockets after last season. He underwent surgery on his left ankle due to a long-standing injury. This strange problem had been bothering him for a very long time. As he works towards his recovery, the Rockets’ head coach, Ime Udoka, provided insights into Finney-Smith’s current status during a recent press conference.

When asked about Finney-Smith’s readiness for the opener, Udoka noted, “No contact but doing all the shooting and other things as well as getting treatment during practice.” Through the first week of training camp, Finney-Smith has been most engaged during live practice and scrimmage-type drills. He has not participated in full-contact practices so far.

The Rockets had an eye on Finney-Smith’s rehab early last month and are doing so as they gear up for the new season. His absence in the opener could have implications for the team’s performance against Oklahoma City, especially considering his role as a forward and his ability to contribute on both ends of the court.

As the season nears, fans and analysts alike will be staring at their phones for any news on Finney-Smith’s recovery timeline. With so much expectation resting on the Rockets’ new signing, they will be hoping he can get back to full fitness ASAP. The 22-year-old is poised to have an immediate impact during his rookie campaign with the franchise.
