Eze’s Early Strike Secures Crystal Palace’s Spot in FA Cup Fourth Round

Crystal Palace edged out Stockport County with a 1-0 victory in the FA Cup third-round tie, thanks to an early goal by Eberechi Eze. The match took place on Sunday, January 12th, 2025, at Selhurst Park, attended by 21,104 enthusiastic fans. Eze's decisive goal came just four minutes into the game, setting the tone for a match dominated by the home side.

Crystal Palace controlled possession throughout the game, demonstrating their superior Premier League experience against Stockport County. However, despite the dominance, Palace faced several challenges from Stockport's persistent attacks. Stockport County managed more shots on target than their Premier League counterparts but failed to convert these opportunities into goals due to Palace's solid defensive line.

Jefferson Lerma had a significant chance to double Palace's lead late in the match but missed the opportunity. Meanwhile, Trevoh Chalobah was unable to participate due to a contractual issue, although it is clear both he and the club wish to continue their association.

"I know [Chalobah] wants [to stay]. I know we want him, and so I think yes. We still have [a lot of time] to go in the transfer window. Like always, everything can happen," stated Oliver Glasner.

In a strategic move, Oliver Glasner made five changes to the starting lineup that drew with Chelsea on January 4. Among these changes was the inclusion of Matt Turner, the American goalkeeper on loan from Nottingham Forest, who made only his second start for Palace. Turner was tested early by Callum Camps' low effort but handled it with ease, ensuring Stockport did not find an equalizer.

Despite the narrow scoreline, Crystal Palace remained largely unthreatened. They nearly found a second goal during the match's final moments in six minutes of stoppage time, but it was not to be. Nonetheless, the match concluded comfortably in Palace's favor.

Marc Guehi and Trevoh Chalobah have expressed their desire to remain with Crystal Palace, signaling stability within the squad as they advance further in the FA Cup.
