Exciting Multi-Format Women’s Ashes Series Set to Ignite Cricket Rivalry

The multi-format Women's Ashes series is set to commence on January 11 in Australia, promising an exhilarating contest between two of cricket's most storied rivals. Fans in the UK can catch all the live action on TNT Sports. This series, which features matches across all three formats—one Test, three T20s, and three one-day internationals—offers a unique sporting spectacle.

Notably, this edition of the Women's Ashes introduces several changes to its structure. The Test match has been relocated to the end of the series, continuing a shift that began with the 2023 edition. In a historic first since the multi-format structure's inception before the 2013 series, the Test will be played in a separate season from the men's Ashes.

The multi-format approach has added an extra layer of intrigue to the Women's Ashes since its introduction. Over the course of seven series under this format, England has held the Ashes after ten editions, retaining them in cases of a draw. However, Australia boasts a strong track record with ten series victories to England's six.

This year's Test match brings several notable modifications. Reduced from five days to four, this format aims to inject more excitement into the game. Additionally, the Test will be played as a day-night game for only the second time in Women's Ashes history. A win in the Test is highly coveted, offering four points, while a draw grants each team two points.

The white-ball games—ODIs and T20s—also follow a points-based system. The victorious team in these matches earns two points, while a no result, tie, or abandoned match results in one point each.

Looking beyond this edition, the 2025 Women's Ashes schedule promises further thrilling encounters. It includes a warm-up match against the Governor Generals XI, followed by three ODIs and three T20s. The one-off Test will be staged at the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) from January 31 to February 2. This game marks a significant occasion as it will be the first women's Test played at the MCG since 1949 and will celebrate the 90th anniversary of the first women's Test.
