Eugenio Chacarra Triumphs at Indian Open for First European Tour Title

Eugenio Chacarra, All in all, a pretty darn good week for the promising young Spaniard, who earned his first European tour victory by winning the Indian Open. The 25-year-old Spaniard accomplished this feat in his ninth tournament on the European circuit. Chacarra’s victory in just his fifth LIV start is the latest result in his fast-rising career.

Chacarra reversed the narrative to win the title at the Indian Open with an otherworldly final round of 4 under. He wound up two shots clear of his nearest challenger, Keita Nakajima. Chacarra carded a 1-under 71 in the last round, overcoming a double-bogey on his first hole of play. He began the day with a one-shot lead. He encountered a few bumps in the road early, making a double-bogey on No. 1 and a bogey on the third, bringing him back to even-par for the week. Chacarra showed the kind of mettle that traitors wish they had, regaining his footing to take the victory.

Japan’s Keita Nakajima, who was runner-up, closed with an even-par 72 in the final round. Despite the late pressure from Nakajima, Chacarra was able to fend off the challenge and secure the win. In truth, this victory is deeply personal for Chacarra. He won a wild card to participate in the tournament, and in return for the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, he profusely expressed gratitude to his benefactors.

Chacarra hasn’t allowed this exclusion to stop him. Rather than deflating him, that disappointment only appears to have stoked his resolve to conquer the European tour.
