Essex Welcomes Back Pakistan Paceman Mohammad Amir for T20 Blast

Well, you may have heard that Essex County Cricket Club has an exciting announcement! They have now re-signed 33-year-old Pakistani pace bowler Mohammad Amir for this season’s T20 Blast. Amir made 42 appearances for Essex between 2017 and 2019. Today, he joins the team with that wealth of experience and skill, just as they look to make what the team hopes will be a successful campaign.

Since then, Amir has established himself as a serious weapon in the T20 game. He has taken a sensational 371 wickets in only 322 matches around the world. His impressive record includes 119 wickets in 36 Test matches and 61 wickets in 61 One Day Internationals for Pakistan. He has done so as a player for the Quetta Gladiators in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) of late.

The pacer’s arrival will see him play a full part in the initial group stage of the T20 Blast with Essex. If the squad makes it past the group stage in Qatar, Amir will have further opportunities to extend his time with the club. His first competitive game back with Essex will be against Hampshire Hawks in the T20 Blast on May 30.

Chris Silverwood, Essex’s director of cricket, expressed his confidence in Amir’s abilities. Having worked with him before, Silverwood knows the impact Amir will have as one of the team’s newest members.

“I know the experience and skillset he brings having worked with him here before,” – Chris Silverwood

Silverwood is confident that Amir’s late return will strengthen an already impressive unit.

“He will certainly strengthen what is an already strong squad for our T20 Blast campaign this season,” – Chris Silverwood
