Essex and Lancashire Celebrate First Victories in Women’s T20 Blast

Essex and Lancashire enjoyed their first victories in the Women’s T20 Blast so far. Congratulations to their amazing performances in their games! At Chelmsford, unbeaten Essex set a very tough target for Somerset to chase down, while Lancashire proved their batting mayhem credentials in a classic match.

Essex’s defeat of Somerset also saw Lauren Winfield-Hill as the player of the match as she smashed 42 runs from just 25 balls. Her blistering innings allowed Essex to post a target of 150 runs for Somerset to chase down. Remarkably, the Essex bowlers turned up the performance of their careers on demand. Esmae MacGregor spearheaded the attack, claiming her career-best T20 figures of 4/8.

Somerset struggled to regain their form despite continued strong fighting efforts. They were bowled out for 84 runs, losing the match by 66 runs. This triumph represented a previously elusive milestone for Essex as they celebrated their first win of the campaign.

Lancashire’s long and difficult fight for their title continued, but they helped make sure of their own success, too. Ellie Threlkeld top-scored with a magnificent 48 and Aisla Lister scored a useful 42 not out. Lancashire made 140 runs in their 20 overs. They managed to lose 7 wickets in the process.

In a moment of athleticism, Olivia Barnes took an amazing catch on the boundary at square leg to help remove Lissy Macleod. Her match quickly took a tragic turn. She finished making a second catch but had to exit the field afterwards after injuring her right hand.

Durham’s first inning started with an explosion! Suzie Bates partnered with Katherine Fraser to give us a rock-solid opening partnership, making 61 runs collectively for the team. Despite conceding an aggressive opening stand of 51, Lancaster’s bowlers reacted admirably, with four wickets from Grace Potts (4-20) doing most of the damage. Sophie Morris and Sophie Ecclestone each took two wickets to push Nice into the semi-finals. On the other hand, Abtaha Maqsood had a terrific game-changing moment by bowling out Fran Wilson when it mattered most.
