Four well-known England cricketers have secured surprise new contracts for the 2026 season of The Hundred. This huge shift will dramatically change the tournament’s competitive landscape. Ben Duckett and Sophia Dunkley have joined respective men’s and women’s Trent Rockets teams. At the same time, Lauren Filer and Alice Capsey are preparing to head to Birmingham Phoenix.
Ben Duckett, 31, has established himself as one of the planet’s premier all-format opening batters over the past few years. Despite facing challenges during the recent Ashes series in Australia, where he averaged 20.2, his overall performance has solidified his reputation. Duckett has been a central figure for Nottinghamshire since 2018. Now, he’s looking to further his education with the Trent Rockets.
Sophia Dunkley is joining the Trent Rockets! Since her international debut in 2021, she has established herself as a key fixture in the England lineup. After a season spent with Welsh Fire, Dunkley will be looking to build on her personal success with this exciting opportunity.
Lauren Filer, known for her rapid bowling speed, has signed with Birmingham Phoenix after an impressive season with Manchester Originals in 2025. She finished that season with a bowling average of 12.12 and took eight wickets over just six matches. Her inclusion is sure to add some major firepower to the Phoenix’s bowling attack.
England allrounder Alice Capsey, another of Birmingham Phoenix’s new signings, will share the bowling attack with Filer. Collectively, they have a bold agenda to make a big splash during the tournament.
Ali Maiden from The Bucket Down expressed his excitement over what Filer will add to the team. Lauren is an exciting young bowler, who adds real pace and a combative edge to the attack,” he said. He added, “She brings an aggressive mindset and control that we believe will be crucial in The Hundred.”
