England, Sri Lanka, Australia, South Africa, India, West Indies, and Pakistan—and the defending champions, New Zealand—have already made it in. The last four slots will be determined by a qualifying tournament, set to take place later this year.
The group-stage matches will be held across six venues: Headingley, Old Trafford, Edgbaston, The Oval, the Hampshire Bowl, and Bristol’s County Ground. England’s group is made up of West Indies, New Zealand, Sri Lanka and two qualifiers yet to be decided. By comparison, the other group includes Australia, India, South Africa and Pakistan.
The tournament’s format matches two groups of four teams, with the top two teams from each group advancing to the semi-finals. The semi-finals promise to create a fever pitch atmosphere at The Oval on 30 June and 2 July. After that, the exciting climax will take place at Lord’s on Sunday 5th July!
This World Cup is particularly significant for England. They’re hellbent on reclaiming the trophy after a 13-year absence. Their most recent success came way back in 2009, and since then, Australia have ripped through the competition, winning a historic six titles. New Zealand took home the trophy in the last competition, hosted last fall.
