Emma Raducanu faced a challenging situation during her match against Karolína Muchová at the Dubai Tennis Championships. The young British tennis star appeared shaken after a man displaying "fixated behavior" approached her in a public area on Monday. This unsettling incident left Raducanu visibly affected, prompting her to seek the umpire's assistance while trailing 2-0 in the first set.
The distressing moment unfolded as Raducanu hid behind the umpire’s chair, seeking comfort from her opponent, Muchová. The Czech player demonstrated sportsmanship during the ordeal, providing support as Raducanu navigated through the emotional impact of the incident. The same individual was later spotted in the stands during Raducanu’s match on Tuesday, leading to his removal and subsequent ban from all WTA events pending a threat assessment.
Despite the turmoil, Raducanu managed to showcase her resilience. She had previously secured a victory over Greece’s Maria Sakkari in Dubai before facing Muchová. However, her journey in the tournament was cut short as she experienced an early exit, adding to a string of disappointing outcomes that included early departures from four consecutive tournaments.
Raducanu's recent performances have shown promise; she reached the third round of the Australian Open just last month. Currently ranked 61 in the world, her rise to fame began with her stunning victory at the 2021 US Open, where she triumphed at just 18 years old after coming through qualifying rounds.

Raducanu expressed gratitude for the support she received following the incident, stating, “Thank you for the messages of support.” She reflected on her experience, saying, “Difficult experience yesterday but I’ll be okay and proud of how I came back and competed despite what happened at the start of the match.” She also extended her appreciation to Muchová, saying, “Thank you to Karolína for being a great sport and best of luck to her for the rest of the tournament.”
