As the NFL season progresses into Week 8, several players are making headlines for their impressive performances and unique contributions to their teams. This week, we’re honoring ascending talents such as Jimmy Horn Jr., Dane Belton, and Chimere Dike. That doesn’t mean they haven’t been poised to make an outsized impact, even when they’re not starting every game. Veterans such as Kelvin Beachum and Tyquan Lewis are reinventing themselves. More than that, they are demonstrating how deep and versatile the rosters they’ve constructed are.
Spotlight on Emerging Talent
Jimmy Horn Jr., a wide receiver for his team, has gained attention for his remarkable playmaking abilities. In a thrilling matchup against the Chicago Bears in Week 2, Horn Jr. showcased his skills with a spectacular one-handed catch thrown by quarterback Jared Goff. This play not only proved Horn Jr’s mettle, but showed Goff’s ability to rise to the occasion.
At the same time, Chimere Dike has completed his evolution into the electric, game-changing playmaker the Titans hoped he’d be. After being primarily known for his work on special teams, Dike took his offensive game to a whole new level in 2023. His ability to adapt and perform in various roles sets him apart as a key asset for the Titans moving forward.
Dane Belton, a safety, has found himself a role in dime defensive packages. Secondly, he’s developed into a special teams ace. His versatility provides the perfect opportunity for the coaching staff to stretch his effects across the entirety of the defenses’ weaknesses, improving the entire team’s defensive production.

Veteran Players Redefining Roles
Veteran offensive tackle Kelvin Beachum has stepped into a unique role this season, serving as Arizona’s designated extra tight end. This shift not only showcases Beachum’s adaptability but reflects the team’s strategy to maximize his experience and skill set. By accepting this dual responsibility, Beachum is helping both the passing game and the running game.
Tyquan Lewis reinforces his trustworthiness on the other side of the ball. Despite playing for the Colts for eight seasons now, he has yet to make a full-time start. His knowledge of the game, experience, and leadership skills have been extremely helpful to our team throughout the course of a game, particularly in clutch situations.
Defensive tackle Moro Ojomo is on a mission to have an impact. His increasing prominence is certainly noteworthy. His development as a player will be key in bolstering the defensive line. Giving them depth should be a key to their success as the season progresses.
Coaches Recognize Underrated Talent
From coaches across the league, we’ve seen a growing recognition of what players who are overlooked can bring to the game. Todd Bowles praised one of his players, noting, “[He is] very underrated — one of our most underrated players, but one of our best players.” This sentiment reflects a growing appreciation for those who may not always receive media attention but play critical roles in their teams’ successes.
As teams continue to evaluate their rosters and game strategies, it is essential to acknowledge how these complementary players contribute to overall performance. Their capacity to make a difference across many contexts gives units unique tactical benefits that are frequently underappreciated, either intentionally or unintentionally.
